Give2Asia visits Bantul

On January 13th we were very pleased to have Gillian and Benyo from Give2Asia visit us in Bantul. Although they had a very busy schedule whilst in Yogyakarta we were able to show them SD Sriharjo as well as a few kindergartens we have recently completed. The BKP would like to sincerely thank Give2Asia for all of their support, advice and guidance since we began in 2006.

A Bantul success ...

The New Year saw the BKP start another new phase of building. Thanks to another generous donation from the Happy Hearts Fund we have begun construction on 6 new kindergartens: Bawuran Kindergarten, Karangrejik Kindergarten, Panggang Kindergarten, Greges Kindergarten, Sanansari Kindergarten and Pamardi Siwi (Pandak) Kindergarten.

Bali Kindergarten Project

We are thrilled to announce our builders are coming to BALI !!!

Aside from the six new kindergartens in Bantul, we will also start work on Dharma Kumara kindergarten in Bali as well as renovating Negeri II primary school adjacent to the kindergarten. These are the first projects for the Bali Kindergarten Project, an offshoot of the Bantul Kindergarten Project.

Thank you Teddies for Tragedies
On a recent trip home to the UK, Alison caught up with Patricia from Teddies for Tragedies, a wonderful charity dedicated to providing beautiful hand knitted teddy bears to children in war zones and disaster areas throughout the world. Patricia gave us another generous gift of colourful teddies for little ones here in Indonesia. We genuinely appreciate the work of Patricia and her talented knitters as well as their continued support of the BKP.

The PENCIL Program
Since its inception in July 2006 the BKP has build 27 kindergartens and a primary school in 9 sub-districts throughout Bantul allowing over 1700 children to continue their education in safe, engaging and inspiring environments. From January 2008 until May 2008, the BKP will begin work on another 7 kindergartens, 6 of those located in Bantul and the last in Bali. Although we are a team of only four people, the BKP is an organization with a clear vision and a passion for improving the lives and education of Indonesian children throughout the archipelago.

To ensure that these kindergartens are maintained and that teachers and children have access to new educational resources, we have initiated the ‘PENCIL’ Program (Promote Education, Nurture Children, Inspire Lives). With an annual donation of US$500, a kindergarten will have its general maintenance needs met and a means of purchasing new classroom resources.  This donation is managed by the BKP on behalf of the kindergarten. In consultation with the BKP, the kindergarten outlines its immediate maintenance and educational needs.

It must be stressed that the BKP continues to encourage kindergartens to retain a degree of self-sufficiency and to utilize resources within their villages, however given the financial hardships of these communities we still believe we must provide some assistance and guidance so that greater independence and knowledge can be achieved over time.
